Wellington: Day 14 by Sol
Dec 11
Hello, everybody. We had a busy week since the weather forecast said that on the weekend it will be raining, so we had to go to the city all the weekdays.
Today we went to Te Papa museum again. We finished what we couldn’t finishing yesterday and also we finished the 3rd floor.
We were asked how the Christmas is celebrated here: it’s the same. Here is the Christmas tree on the train station. Raquel was afraid of the tree (I don’t know why), so had to take the picture with her.

Then we made our way to the museum. First we finished the Maori-England section.
This boat is supposed to be the one where the Maori came to New Zealand. In the first picure you can see the boat, in the second picture you walk into a room and it tells the history of the ancestors. It’s actually cool because you can only see it inside of the room, they looked like holograms.

We went to the kids area, they played with computers, a small shopping mall, puppetsa and I had to make them some neckless.

First I stayed with the girls so Uri could see the rest of the exibitions, then was Uri’s turn to stay.
With the english invasion different diseases came, racism against the maori culture. Only the white people had the access to education, health, etc.

We continued our tour to the 3rd floor called Blood Earth Fire, it’s named after the british invasion when they began to fire the fields to colonize New Zealand. In this section you can see the before and after of the forest, some actual and extinguished species, etc.

That was the end of our tour today. Two more floors to explore.
We walked our way back, first we ate at McDonald’s because Saraí wanted Megamind toys, but they didn’t have them. We crossed the street to the train station and we made some shopping for the gingerbread house we are making tomorrow.

Hey! I remembered when we went to the Mall in Cuernavaca, Raquel was afraid of the Lady “Calavera” (typical representation of Death’s Day) That was scary for her. A Christmas tree? Probable she felt it was a huge object behind her. The girls look wonderful, happy and doing a lot of things. Well the parents are having a lot of fun too! 😉
Waiting for more…

Sorry it is probably not “probable”. Ha ha ha. So excited on posting a comment! =P
Thanks for sharing a little history of the Maori culture.
The Christmas tree is big; and the different animal species are very interesting.
